Precision-Engineered Modern Home,

Bay Harbour Islands, FL - 2015

This 6,000 SF residence in Bay Harbour Islands packed a surprising amount of complexity into a relatively small footprint. It included over 3,000 SF of Fleetwood sliding doors and Trulite fixed glazing, with 10’ tall sliders wrapping the entire rear elevation and tying into both interior and exterior wood ceilings.

Precise coordination was critical—sliders had to align with steel beams at the pavilion, with clerestory windows wrapping above. Structural drawings had the bottom of concrete beams off by as much as 6” at the head of the doors. I engineered a custom overhead support at the pocket wall and worked closely with the builder and trades to adjust framing in the field.

I was on site weekly to make sure the project was built to match the design intent—catching conflicts early and preventing issues before they were baked into the structure.

The amount of coordination required in a house this size made it especially challenging, but the results speak for themselves.
